Nanotechnology, BigData, and Artificial Intelligence are a few among the most hyped and fast-growing technologies in 2016.

Here is a brief introduction to Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial: Man-made.
Intelligence: Ability to understand, learn, and think.

Artificial Intelligence refers to the technology involved in building a system that can behave, think, understand, and learn like a human being.

So, the first question that pops into our head is – What is Artificial Intelligence?

What is Artificial Intelligence
According to John McCarthy AI is concerned with the design of intelligence in an artificial device or artifact.

Artificial intelligence is intelligence exhibited by machines. In computer science, an ideal “intelligent” machine is a flexible rational agent that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal.

Some other definition of AI

Artificial Intelligence is usually defined as the science of making computers do things that require intelligence when done by humans.
Or
A.I. is the study of ideas that enable computers to be intelligent.

Brief History of A.I.

Uses or application of Artificial Intelligence

  1. Finance
  2. Hospitals and medicines
  3. Heavy industries
  4. Online and TCS
  5. Transportation
  6. Video games
  7. Military
  8. Space science
  9. Music

A.I. In India: At a time when the global technology giants are set to leverage the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for our daily lives from taking care of businesses to fulfilling our personal needs,” India seems to be reluctant to get on to this bus.

For the Indian market, we might see some serious AI in action around 2020, and by 2025 there should be considerable advancements, Faisal Kawoosa, lead analyst, Telecoms Practice, at market research, and consulting firm CyberMedia Research (CMR), told  IANS.

In India, top-notch technology companies are yet to make substantial progress in the business of AI. While Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has Ignio” a neural science-based automation platform that optimizes IT operations, Infosys has recently launched the AiKiDo project that will focus on AI, knowledge-based IT and design thinking to help enterprise clients.

If I talk about the use of A.I. in India, then the example that I would like to cite is NIKI.

Before introducing NIKI, I want to talk about the problems which we face in our daily life.

  1. Traffic problem
  2. Problem during booking auto-rickshaw, cab.
  3. Fare related problem.

So for avoiding these problems we need some intelligent gadgets or applications which can help us in our daily life and make our work easier.
Niki is a simple, no-frills virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence. You can tell it to book a cab for you, and it will give you options from both Uber and Ola in hatchback, sedan, and SUV categories. It will tell you which one is closer to your location, what are the fares, and book the one you pick. You don’t need to have Uber or Ola on your phone, which means you don’t need to wait for the map to load to book your ride. You can also track the ride and even cancel it right from Niki.

For instance:

Imagine you are heading over to meeting in your car, the navigation system identifies the traffic jam on your road and gives you an alternative direction (this is already there now). But that’s not the end of it. What if the same device also updates the people who are waiting for you about the delay and by how much time? That’s the simplest version. Now if your car meets with an accident, the system updates the status to your automobile service center automatically while it also looks for the nearest hospital to send you an ambulance, and the ambulance driver knows your exact location on his navigation system and reaches you there. Even the medical assistance in the ambulance gets complete information about your medical history on their screen instantly. All by zero human interaction
